Publications Newsletters New -Year “Welcome – Satsang” ( Jan 1, 2005 ) The New Year 2005 commenced with a joyous and very pleasant evening function on Jan 1, 2005 at Sivanada Ashram, Ahmedabad. It was marked by the presence of H. E. Governor of Gujarat , Mr. Navalkishor Sharmaji and the Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University Sri. A. U. Patel. A group of Cardiovascular Surgeons, Physicians and Research Scholars were invited to attend this function and Dr. Naranjan Dhalla (E. D) from Cardiovascular Research Institute, Winnipeg (Manitoba University) Canada, was greeted and honored for his meritorious services to Mother India. Also present at this function was a group of established Yoga Students from Taiwan, Singapore, China and Los Angles (USA). The evening function began with devotional songs by Mrs. Sima Trivedi and Mr. Jayesh Naik. The highlights of this function are: H. E. Governor of Gujarat Sri. Navalkishor Sharmaji released a book ‘Sada Sarvada Ahinja” a gujarati translation (by Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji) of ‘Forever Here’of Guru Maharaj H. H. Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj. New release – “Sada Sarvada Anhij” Gujarati translation (by Swami Adhyatmanandji) of “Forever Here” of Gurumaharaj Sri. Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj E. Governor of Gujarat Sri. Navalkishor Sharmaji & Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University Sri. A. U. Patel at Sivananda Ashram (Jan1, 2005) The Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University, Sri. A. U. Patel appreciated Sivananda Ashram for its contribution in the field of Yoga teaching. He very gracefully announced that the Gujarat University extended its recognition and requested the Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad to commence regular Diploma and Certificate Yoga Teacher’s Training Course on behalf of the Gujarat University. “Sivananda International Vedanta –Yoga Academy (SIVA)”, the name coined by the devotees of the Ashram, will soon start offering diploma courses in the Science of Yoga. Students from “Nrutya Bharati School of Dance” presented a beautiful Bharatnatyam dance performance, which was directed by Sri.Chandan Thakore. This beautiful welcoming New Year 2005 function was concluded with a grand dinner shared by more than eight hundred devotees. Advanced Yoga Training Course (Dec 31,2005 – Jan 2, 2005) Forty-seven established students of Yoga from Yoga International China Yoga Association, headed by Mr. Thomas Kao of “Nirvana Yoga Academy ”, Beijing (China), Margaret and David from Los Angles stayed at Sivananda Ashram for advanced yoga training course. 635th Yogasana Camp At Sivananda Ashram ( Jan 1, 2005 – Jan 10, 2005 ) At the start of New Year 2005, ten days Yoga Camp was organized at the ashram. Four Hundred seventy five people joined for early morning 5.30am to 7.00 am Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation session lead by Rev. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. The camp was inaugurated by Sri. Dinker Mehta, a well-known entertainer. He shared his personal health problem with others and said, “because of my obesity I have become practically handicap but a few tips of Yogasana and Pranayama by Rev.Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj have brought me a new hope of life”. Mahabharata Katha by Sri. Kishorji Vyas ( Jan 18, 2005 – Jan 26, 2005 ) Ashram had arranged a week long “Mahabharata Katha” by an erudite scholar, Acharya Sri Kishoreji Vyas from Pune( Maharashtra ). Evening discourses from 5.30 pm to 9.00 pm were attended by a large number of devotees, in spite of a cold wave in the city. Rev. Sri. Kishorji Vyasji at Vyashpith (MahaBharat Katha) ” Sri Lalaji” (Baby Krishna) adorned in a beautiful seat( stage) On Jan 26, 2005 being ‘The National Republic Day’, flag was hoisted in the morning at the ashram premises by Sri Kishore Vyasji. Rev. Swamiji Maharaj spoke some words of wisdom and quoted Sri Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj; “The service to the Nation comes first, society the next and self the last and the least.” Ram Katha by Mahamandleshwar Sri.Satyamitranandaji Maharaj(Jan 27,2005– Jan 31,2005) Ashram had a great privilege and honor to host Rev. Mahamandaleshwar 1008 Sri Swami Satyamitrananadaji Maharaj (Founder of Sri Bharat Mata Mandir and president of Samanvya Trust, Haridwar). Before the start of discourses on Ram Katha by His Holiness, “Maruti Yagna” was performed in the Yagnashala of the ashram from Jan 24, 2005- Jan 26, 2005 . On Jan 25, 2005 , before the “Murti Pratisha” (Installation of Deity), a procession (ShobhaYatra) was organized by Ashram devotees, in which, the Idols of Lord Sri Rama, Lakshman, Janki, Sri Hanuman and Sri Dattatreya were beautifully decorated and carried with chants Vedic hymns by Pundits and Ras-Garba by devotees in the streets of Ramdev Nagar and Jodhpur Village. Mahamandaleshwar 1008 Sri Swami Satyamitranandaji Maharaj, Aacharya Sri Kishoreji Vyas and Sri Swami Adhyatmananadaji also joined in this Shobha Yatra. Aha, what a divine sight! It would instantly elevate a person in a different realm from this mundane life. Ashram was blessed by many Saints and Mahatamas H. Sri SwamiVaikunthanandaji Maharaj from the H.Q. ofDLS, Sivananada Ashram, Rishikesh, H. H. Sri Swami Ramanandaji Maharaj from the DLS, Hyderabad, H. H. Sri Swami Viditananadaji Maharaj from Adhyatma Vidya Mandir, Tatva Tirth, (Thaltej), H. H. Sri Swami Bhajan Prakashanandaji Maharaj (Ranava, Porbandar), Srimat Swami Paramanandaji Maharaj Gotri (Baroda) and Sri Swami Divyanandaji from Shymalaji (Khedbrahma), H.H.Sri Swami Gurukrupanandaji Maharaj (Khedbrahma) and Swamini Suryananda Mataji from Sananda were also present to grace this occasion. On Jan 26, 2005 with great devotion and reverence, installations of the Deities (Murti Pratistha) in traditional manner were performed in the newly built Sri Ram – Hanuman – Dattatreya temple at the Ashram. The temple structure was a generous seva from Rev. Sri Shambhu Singhji, a building contractor as a token of his love for Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. Also Bhumi- Poojan was done and Foundation stone was laid for the Sivananda Publication Department Seva. Sri Jayesh Nayak & Smt.Sima Trivedi, Dr.Suramani Monika Shah, Pandit Sri Krishnakant Parikh, Pundit Niraj Chandra, Pundit Nayan Maharaj, Smt.Vibhaben & Sri Rasbihari Desai sang wonderful devotional Bhajans everyday before the discourse of His Holiness Swami Satyamitranandaji Maharaj. Pundit Matang Parikh presented fusion of drum performance. Devotees pledged to send Rs.5000 money order to holy Sri Kanchi Kam Kothi Math, as a token of their love and support for the aftermath of Tsunami. Other news Sri Narayan Guru Cultural Mission celebrated its 27th Annual function in presence of Sri. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj . Also Swamiji was invited at Sri. Sheth C. N. Vidhyalaya, P.T.C.College, where he addressed Primary Teacher Training

Advanced Yoga Training Course (Dec 31,2005 – Jan 2, 2005) Forty-seven established students of Yoga from Yoga International China Yoga Association, headed by Mr. Thomas Kao of “Nirvana Yoga Academy ”, Beijing (China), Margaret and David from Los Angles stayed at Sivananda Ashram for advanced yoga training course. 635th Yogasana Camp At Sivananda Ashram ( Jan 1, 2005 – Jan 10, 2005 ) At the start of New Year 2005, ten days Yoga Camp was organized at the ashram. Four Hundred seventy five people joined for early morning 5.30am to 7.00 am Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation session lead by Rev. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. The camp was inaugurated by Sri. Dinker Mehta, a well-known entertainer. He shared his personal health problem with others and said, “because of my obesity I have become practically handicap but a few tips of Yogasana and Pranayama by Rev.Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj have brought me a new hope of life”. Mahabharata Katha by Sri. Kishorji Vyas ( Jan 18, 2005 – Jan 26, 2005 ) Ashram had arranged a week long “Mahabharata Katha” by an erudite scholar, Acharya Sri Kishoreji Vyas from Pune( Maharashtra ). Evening discourses from 5.30 pm to 9.00 pm were attended by a large number of devotees, in spite of a cold wave in the city. Rev. Sri. Kishorji Vyasji at Vyashpith (MahaBharat Katha)” Sri Lalaji” (Baby Krishna) adorned in a beautiful seat( stage) On Jan 26, 2005 being ‘The National Republic Day’, flag was hoisted in the morning at the ashram premises by Sri Kishore Vyasji. Rev. Swamiji Maharaj spoke some words of wisdom and quoted Sri Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj; “The service to the Nation comes first, society the next and self the last and the least.” Ram Katha by Mahamandleshwar Sri.Satyamitranandaji Maharaj(Jan 27,2005– Jan 31,2005) Ashram had a great privilege and honor to host Rev. Mahamandaleshwar 1008 Sri Swami Satyamitrananadaji Maharaj (Founder of Sri Bharat Mata Mandir and president of Samanvya Trust, Haridwar). Before the start of discourses on Ram Katha by His Holiness, “Maruti Yagna” was performed in the Yagnashala of the ashram from Jan 24, 2005- Jan 26, 2005 . On Jan 25, 2005 , before the “Murti Pratisha” (Installation of Deity), a procession (ShobhaYatra) was organized by Ashram devotees, in which, the Idols of Lord Sri Rama, Lakshman, Janki, Sri Hanuman and Sri Dattatreya were beautifully decorated and carried with chants Vedic hymns by Pundits and Ras-Garba by devotees in the streets of Ramdev Nagar and Jodhpur Village. Mahamandaleshwar 1008 Sri Swami Satyamitranandaji Maharaj, Aacharya Sri Kishoreji Vyas and Sri Swami Adhyatmananadaji also joined in this Shobha Yatra. Aha, what a divine sight! It would instantly elevate a person in a different realm from this mundane life. Ashram was blessed by many Saints and Mahatamas H. Sri SwamiVaikunthanandaji Maharaj from the H.Q. ofDLS, Sivananada Ashram, Rishikesh, H. H. Sri Swami Ramanandaji Maharaj from the DLS, Hyderabad, H. H. Sri Swami Viditananadaji Maharaj from Adhyatma Vidya Mandir, Tatva Tirth, (Thaltej), H. H. Sri Swami Bhajan Prakashanandaji Maharaj (Ranava, Porbandar), Srimat Swami Paramanandaji Maharaj Gotri (Baroda) and Sri Swami Divyanandaji from Shymalaji (Khedbrahma), H.H.Sri Swami Gurukrupanandaji Maharaj (Khedbrahma) and Swamini Suryananda Mataji from Sananda were also present to grace this occasion. On Jan 26, 2005 with great devotion and reverence, installations of the Deities (Murti Pratistha) in traditional manner were performed in the newly built Sri Ram – Hanuman – Dattatreya temple at the Ashram. The temple structure was a generous seva from Rev. Sri Shambhu Singhji, a building contractor as a token of his love for Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. Also Bhumi- Poojan was done and Foundation stone was laid for the Sivananda Publication Department Seva. Sri Jayesh Nayak & Smt.Sima Trivedi, Dr.Suramani Monika Shah, Pandit Sri Krishnakant Parikh, Pundit Niraj Chandra, Pundit Nayan Maharaj, Smt.Vibhaben & Sri Rasbihari Desai sang wonderful devotional Bhajans everyday before the discourse of His Holiness Swami Satyamitranandaji Maharaj. Pundit Matang Parikh presented fusion of drum performance. Devotees pledged to send Rs.5000 money order to holy Sri Kanchi Kam Kothi Math, as a token of their love and support for the aftermath of Tsunami. Publications Newsletters Activities of the Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad ( Feb, 2005) Keeping in front the Ideals and Lofty Teaching of Holy Master Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj “Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate & Realize”, the Spiritual and Yoga activities at the Ashram have been flourishing day by day and ashram has blossomed into a beautiful Spiritual and Yoga center. People from all over are visiting the Ashram and evolving in their quest for achieving the Goal of Life, “GOD REALIZATION”. Daily Yoga Classes at Sivananda Ashram for the established yoga students are offered in three sessions in the morning, from 5.30 am to 6.45 am, 7.00 am to 8.00 am and 10.30 am to 11.30 am. For the novice in Yoga field ashram offers classes in two sessions each month from – First to the tenth in the morning 5.30 am – 7.00 am & Fifteenth to twenty-fifth in the evening 6.00 pm to 7.30pm. Special classes for women are held in two sessions every day from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm. On Feb 20, 2005 fifty participants took advantage of “Mahashankh Prakchalan Prakriya (Bowel cleansing Kriya). It was planned on the initiatives of Ms. Sangeeta Thawani, Mr. Tapan Mankodi & assisted by other yoga teachers of the Ashram. On April 29, 2001 H. H. Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj inaugurated “Sri Swami Chidananda Dhyan Mandir (Meditation Hall)”. Since then devotees have been enjoying its serene and holy atmosphere, perfect for meditation and contemplation. Because of increasing Yoga and Spiritual activities at the ashram and participation by the devotees, space is a little problem. So the ashram administration, after careful consideration making it available for Yoga sessions at certain hours, when it is absolutely needed. The hall has a huge Mantra collection “built in structure” and about six Crores (Sixty Millions) of written Mantras by devotees have been placed in it so far. The REIKI sessions for Level I & Level II were held in the month of February under the guidance of Mrs. Rupa Majmudar. This month an herbal drink “(Kadu Kariyatu)” was served daily in the morning from 6.00 am.7.30am to all. It is an ancient medicinal remedy prepared from many herbal leaves, supposed to be good for general health and vitality. About two hundred fifty to three hundred people tried the drink for good health. As always, this month daily Evening Satsang (9.00pm –9.45pm), Sunday satsang (8.30 am -10.00 am) and ‘Paduka Pujan’ on Thursday were performed at the Ashram. Also Bramachari Shri Mukund Chaitanyaji has started daily discourses on “Ishopanishad” (Monday –Friday) at the Ashram’s Satsang Bhavan this month, which was attended by many devotees. As always the, first Sunday of this month 675 kg wheat and grain were distributed to poor and needy families through “Vishwanath Seva Kendra”. Also each Friday, nutritious food in packages containing chapatti, vegetable, sweets, snacks etc. were served to the underprivileged children of the city. We had a few guest at the Ashram in the month of February. A group of devotees from Divya Jivan Sangh, Ambala arrived with Dr. Om Prakash Sharma, a president of DJS, Ambala, stayed (Feb12 to Feb 22) at the Ashram and enjoyed its holy atmosphere. They went on the pilgrimage to “Dwarka” from here. Also students of the Aravalli institute of Management, Jodhpur, were the guest received at the Ashram from Feb 16- Feb 20. They enjoyed the satsang with Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. On Feb10, 2005 Ahmedabad Rotary Metro arranged their meeting at Ahmedabad Gymkhana Conference Hall. Pujya Swamiji was invited to grace the occasion. He spoke on the subject of “Spiritualities and Science”, which was well received by all. On Feb 25, 2005 a felicitation ceremony was held by the Gujarat Red Cross Society at the Ahmedabad Management Association in the presence of the honorable Governor of Gujarat as the Chief Guest. Gujarat’s first female centurion blood donor Ms. Ketki was honored. Also Rev. Swami Adhyatmanandji (donated blood 117 times) and thirty -two other donors were recognized for their humanitarian services of blood donation many times. 637th Yoga Shibir (Feb 3, 2005 – Feb 9, 2005) at Bhruch “Gujarat Divya Jivan Sangh”, Bharuch branch organized a week long morning Yoga sessions and evenings discourses on the subject of “Gita Navnitam” by Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji. Artists belonging to “Sri Keshavdip Sangeet Kalakendra” and “Pandit Omkarnath Sangeet Kendra” presented devotional music prior to Swamiji’s lecture each day and charged the atmosphere with divine vibrations. During his stay at Bhruch, Pujya Swamiji, among the other activities, visited underprivileged people in the Muslim colony and brought a moment of joy and happiness among them. The executive of Gujarat Narmada Fertilizer Company celebrated a special ‘Yagna Samarambh’ on the occasion of ‘Narmada Saptami in august presence of Pujya Swamiji, where He spoke on the subject of “production problem & solution through yoga” and inspired them. Tree plantation was done at various places here. At Shamlaji, Pujya Swamiji visited “Annakshetra”, which was started by one of the greatest Saints of Gujarat, Brahmlin Sri. Dongreji Maharaj. The Yajna was organized by the devotees for the construction of Shri Laxminarayan Temple and “Murti Pratistha”. Thousands of devotees were gathered for this holy occasion and were in joyous and festive mood. Pujya Swami Vaikunthanandaji Maharaj of Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh and Shri swami Gurusevanandji Maharaj of Khedbrahma and Pujya Sri Swamiji Adhyatmanandaji graced this occasion and inaugurated a large Satsang Bhavan. Rev. Swamiji spoke on the importance of ‘Satsang and Swadhyaya’. It was inspirational for devotees. The host of this ceremony was the family of Shri Dilip Gandhi of Himatnagar. 638th Yoga Shibir at Ankleshwar: (Feb 11, 2005- Feb 18, 2005) ‘Gujarat Divya Jivan Sangh’ organized a week long yoga Shibir of Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji at Ankleshwar, GIDC. “Gita in daily life “was the subject of evening discourses. Publications Newsletters Visit to Surat (April 2, 2005 -April 4, 2005) Maharishi Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra is considered the definitive work on traditional Yoga, and is considered as the first ever written ancient text (3rd & 4th century B C). In this classic, Patanjali articulates the yogic philosophy through 195 Sutra (threads, Wisdom, pearls). According to Yoga Sutra, the ultimate aim of Yoga is to reach Kaivalya” (freedom). This is the experience of one’s innermost being or “soul” (the Purusha). When this level of awareness is achieved, one becomes free of the chains of cause and effect (karma), which bound us to continual reincarnation. Paramahansa Yogananda of Self-Realization Fellowship has given an in-depth explanation of the scientific basis of the “Kriya Yoga” techniques. Sri. Bharatta Mystri of Surat after long years of Spiritual practice realized a new light, meaning and a purpose of Kriya Yoga. He has brought his experiences in his book “KriyaYoga”. H. H. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj had an honor to release his new book “Kriya Yoga”, during his visit to Surat. Rev, Swamiji spent three days at Surat with innumerable programs for general public at engineering college ground at Athawa lines, Surat. Meditation and Pranayam were taught in the morning classes and public lectures were organized in the evening on the subject of Kriya Yoga. During his stay at Surat, Swamiji was invited by many devotees at their homes as well as private and public organizations. Plantation of trees in the orphanage institution was the grand program of Swamiji’s liking and appreciation. 640th Yoga Camp at Nasirabad (April 7, 2005 – April 14, 2005) Triple First Rocket Infantry invited Swamiji at Narsirabad near Ajmer, Rajsthan. Brigadier Mr. Suhas Dharmadhikari with senior officers and Army Battalian joined for Man-Making program. About two hundred twenty five army personal with their wives and families joined the Yoga camp. Series of lectures were organized for boosting up the morals and the inner strength of army troupes by Rev. Sri.Swamiji. During his visit at Nasirabad, he paid homage to the holy shrine of Sri. DARGAH Sarif. Also he had holy bath at Sri. Pushker Lake and visited temple of Lord Brahma . Plantation of trees were done in very large scale in the army contentment which completed Swamiji Adhyatmannadji’s wish of planting 60,000 trees during his diamond jubilee year May 2004 – May 2005. This great work was accomplished by the collective efforts of many devotees, members of public & private organizations and public schools, inspired by Rev. Swamiji. Valedictory function on the last day of this Yoga camp was organized in very ceremonious manner at Triple First Rocket Regiment, in which a large gathering rejoiced the spectacular demonstration of newly learned Yogasana by army troupes.Yoga instructor Sri. Dhaval Patel & Ms.Sangeeta Thawani from Sivananda Ashram assisted Swamiji. Rev. Swamiji attended holy Vishakhy festival at Gurudwara . Visit to Jaipur ( April 12, 2005) April 12, 2005 Swamiji visited Jaipur upon the invitation of Mr. Bhavesh Ranjan Mandal , accountant General of Rajsthan( Jaipur). Mr. B. R. Mandal learned yoga from Swamiji in the year 1975 at Sri. Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Academy of Administration, Massoorie. Since then he is sincerely practicing and teaching science of yoga to people at every opportunity he gets, including giving lessons to his office staff during the lunch hours.Concluding function was organized at Accountant General’s office and certificates were awarded to worthy yoga students by Rev. Swamiji Maharaj. Visit to Sanand, Gujarat ( April 15, 2005 ) April 15, 2005 Rev. Swamiji attended a function at Sanand near Ahmedabad. He unveiled the statue of Sri. Gyanchandaji Maharaj. He was a veteran Saint of Sanand. He lived a life of selfless service for ninety nine years. He has earned the respect and reverence of all the people of this community. Sri.Swamiji address to a large gathering, on the subject of “In Serch of Soul”. Mangaleshwar (Bharuch) H. H. Swami Sampoornanandaji Maharaj lived for 108 year of very meaningful and purposeful life. His 110th Birth anniversary was celebrated in presence of H. H. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj, at Bharadwaj ashram, Mangaleshwar. Late Swami Sampoornanandji was known as “MOUNI BABA”. He observed a total silence for about 40 years of his life. He was a very pious soul and people from all over used to come for His Darshan and Blessings. He loved Swami Adhyatmanandaji and came to the celebration of Swamiji’s golden jubilee function at Baroda ten years ago. At Sivananda Asharm, Ahmedabad. Sri. Ramnavmi Celebration ( April 18, 2005 ) Continuous twenty four hours recitation of Sri. Ram Charitmanas was done from midday April 17, 2005 up to midday April 18, 2005 . Hanuman Jayanti ( April 24, 2005 ) A Maruti Yajna was performed at Hunuman temple of the ashram on Sunday April 24, from 7.00am to 10.30am on the occasion of Sri Hanuman Jayanti, followed by satsang, arati and prasad. Divine Festivity ( April 21, 2005 – May 3, 2005) Shiv Puran Katha (April 21, 2005 – April 29, 2005 ) Nine days long Shiv Puran katha in the form a divine musical recitation by Sri. Dayagiri Bapu, a renowned kathakar was organized at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad. It was concluded on April 29, fourth Anniversary of Sri. Sri. Sri. Ashtlaxmi Bhavan of Sivananda Ashram, A’bad. 4th Annual day of Sri. Ashtlaxmi Bhavan & Sri Chidananda Dhyan Mandir( April 29, 2005) The sacred worship started with Sri. Yantra Pooja in the hours of dawn followed by Kanya pooja, Navchandi Yajna and feeding to the poor, which continued up to late afternoon. In the evening, Holy Sri. Shiv Puran katha ‘s concluding was done at 9.30 pm .Then started traditional worship of Mother Goddess, Sri Asthlakshmi in the form of singing and dancing in her praise (Garba) by devotees. People from all around the community thronged at the ashram and joined up to late night. Divine festivity from April 30, 2005 to May 3, 2005 was the culmination of Diamond Jubilee celebration of H. Publications Newsletters Conclusion of Diamond Jubilee Celebration of H. H. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj( April 21, May 3, 2005). At Lucknow (May 6, 2005 – May 8, 2005) Dr. Anil Srivastava MD (Cardiogiost) and Dr. Mrs. Renu Srivastava DGO organized three days discourses of Rev. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji at Lucknow King George Medical College and Queen Mary Hospital. Then Rev. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji went to Dehradun for Sri. Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj’s darshan. Rev. Gurudev was in delicate health for previous four days. HE expressed His gratitude to Swamiji for traveling all the way from Ahmedabad to see the decaying body. As per Sri Gurudev’s instruction, Swami Adhyatmanandaji visited Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh and had darshan of Holy Master Sri. Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj at Samadhi Mandir. Rev. Sri Swami Vimalanandaji Maharaj, General Secretary of DLS HQ welcomed Swamiji. After over night stay at the Ashram and morning worship at Sri.Vishwanath Temple, Swamiji return back to Ahmedabad. At Haridwar: On his way back Rev.Swami Adhyatmanandaji paid his homage to Sri Sri Anandamayi Ashram, visited H. H. Sri Swami Vishwadevanandaji Maharaj & had a darshan of Maha Mandleshwar Sri Swami Satyamitranandaji Maharaj at Haridwar. Also hearing the news of Maha Mandleshwar Sri Swami Ganesanandaji Maharaj, attaining Maha Samadhi Rev. Swamiji attended last rites of the departed soul. Children’s Residential Camp (May 8, 2005 –May 15, 2005) Sivananda Ashram. A’bad organized a week long residential camp for children. Ninety four children attended the camp. It concluded with grand cultural show by the children and attended by all parents and guardians. Sixth Yoga Teachers Training Residential Course (May 18, 2005 – June 6, 2005) The camp was inaugurated on May 18, 2005. Twenty Nine established Yoga students joined this intense and advanced teachers training course.. The faculty members of these course including Dr. Mayur Patel MD (Diabetologist) Dr. Ina Patel MD (Pathologist) Dr. Varsha Dave DGO, Dr.Amish Chauhan MD(Orthopaedic), Dr. Swetang Pancholi MD (Cardiologist) Dr. Snehal Amin, Reiky Master Rupa Majmudar, Ms. Sangeeta Thawani, Sri. Suresh Patel with H. H. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Last week of this camp, all the participants with the teachers together will be attending spiritual retreat at Tithal (Valsad) 642 Yoga and Meditation Camp (May 19, 2005 –May 28, 2005) Nine hundred novice attended the camp in early hours of morning from 5.30 am – 7.00am. Large number of devotees joined in this satsang. 6th Yoga Teachers Training Course (May 18, 2005 – June 7, 2005) Sivananda Ashram conducted sixth Yoga Teachers Training Course (YTTC) from May 18, 2005 to June 7, 2005.Twentynine established yoga student participated in this course to become a certified yoga teacher recognized by Gujarat University. The teaching team of the course including qualified doctors and yoga teachers namely Dr. Mayur Patel (Diabeitologist), Dr. Ina Patel (Pathologist), Dr.Amish Kshtriya (Orthopedic), Dr. Swetang Pancholi (Cardiologist), Dr. Varshaben Dave (Gynecologist), Dr. Snehal Amin (General Practitioner), Mrs. Rupa Majmudar (Reiki Master), Miss Sangita Thawani (Yoga teacher), Sri Sureshbhai Patel and Rev. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Main topics covered were Human Anatomy, Physiology, Yogasanas, Pranayamas, Meditation, Eastern and Western Philosophy, Philosophy of Geeta and Patanjali’s Ashtangna Yoga. It was about thirteen hours of intense learning each day. At the end of the three weeks course candidates had gone through formal exams including theory and practical aspects of the course syllabus. The concluding ceremony was held at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad, on June 7, 2005 in the august presence of entire faculty members of the board as well as trustees of the ashram. Certificates were awarded to the candidates, who successfully completed twenty days long course of YTTC recognized by Gujarat University. Spiritual Retreat at Seashore of Tithal, Valsad ( June 1, 2005- June 6, 2005) Gujarat Divya Jivan Sangh, organized its annual Sadhana Shibir (Spiritual Retreat) from June 1, 2004 to June 6, 2004 at the seashore of Tithal near Valsad, at Shantiniketan, a hermitage of famous Jain Sadhus’ Bandhu Triputi in peaceful and blissful atmosphere. During the retreat every day in the early morning hours chanting of “Vaidik Hymns” started with the background music of roaring ocean, ringing of bells from Shirdi Saibaba’s Temple . It was a good morning in the real sense for all. After prayer and meditation Rev. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj conducted a Yoga and Pranayama session for the Yoga students at the seashore only. Forenoon commenced with Gita chanting, discourses by Pujya Swamiji on “Shanti Mantras” and followed a mid-day meditation. In the afternoon also sadhana continued with Gita Chanting, discourses on Gita and different Sadhana related topics covered by Resp. Kirtichandraji Maharaj, Mrs. Rupa Majmudar and others. Evenings were spent in the company of beautiful ocean waves and sunset at seashore. The days ended with Question & Answer session and prayer for peace at night satsang. Activities at the Ashram In the month of June, 650 kg.of grains and wheat was distributed in thirty-five needy families. As always third of the month nutritious food packages were distributed to underprivileged children of slum area. In the month of June, about 530 to 600 people participated daily in Yoga classes at the ashram. Morning Yoga classes are conducted by the experienced yoga teachers in the Ashram at 5.30am, 7.00am and 10.30am. Afternoon yoga classes at 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm. especially for women. Other than regular yoga classes every month, from 1st to 10th in the morning and from 15th to 25th in the evening, yoga classes run for the beginners. As always daily satsang from 8.30pm to 9.30 pm, Sunday satsang at 9.15am to 10.15 am and Paduka pujan on Thursday morning were performed at the ashram. Sunderkand path is being recited in Dukh Bhanjan Hanuman temple at the ashram on every Saturday. Visit to Ambala, Ludhiana & Jalandhar (June 25, 2005 to June 30, 2005) From June 25, 2005 to June 30, 2005 Sri Swamiji Maharaj had his tour to Punjab including Ambala, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. Swamiji’s Spiritual discourses were organized at Ambala Cant and Ambala city. Ambala is the place where, “ The Divine Life Society” was registered by the most worshipful and Rev. Gurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj on January 13, 1936. At Ludhiana, morning meditation classes for general public were held at the beautiful lawns of Satluj club. Evening discourses and tree plantations were organized at different places namely at Air force station Halwara, Rotary Club Mid-town and Sri Dayananda Medical College, Ludhiana. Sri Swamiji was also invited at Citibank, Firoz Gandhi Complex, for a talk on ‘stress management’. Early morning meditation and evening discourse on the subject of ‘Gita in daily life’ at Arya Samaj Bhavan at Jalandhar were well received by people. Television center, Jalandhar and All Indian Radio recorded and telecasted Swamiji’s discourses for the benefits of people at large. Other News At Billimora – On June 4, satsang was arranged at banglow “Vrandavan” of Sri. Vinod & Surekha Vashi. Pujya Swamiji Adhyatmanandaji blessed their beloved parent Sri. Bhikhubhai (ninety years old) & Smt Nirmalaben Desai. They were happy to have Pujya Sri.’s darshan & satsang. Also present at the satsang was Sri. Moghabhai, President of famous Vasundhara dairy. On June 6, 2005 Rev. Swami Adhyatmanandaji was invited to preside over an Arangetram Bharat Natyam Indian classical dance recital by Miss Nitika Soni, at famous Tagore Hall, Ahmedabad. Sivananada Ashram welcomed H. H. Sri Swami Prasannatmanandaji Maharaj from Sivananda Ashram headquarters of the Divine Life Society. He stayed at the ashram for a week from June 17, 2005 to June 23, 2005. At the meeting of new executives” Lions club” Sanand, Rev. Publications Newsletters Gujarat Flood Relief Efforts A weeklong torrential rain hit Gujarat during the first week of July and it caused wide spread devastation. Many parts of south Gujarat mainly Baroda, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad districts and Saurashtra were submerged in water. Sivananda Ashram Ahmedabad most humbly offered the relief services to the victims of badly affected flood area namely Dholka, Dholara, Kaira, Anasda and Baroda districts, Ramnagar, Mogar, Adajan, Vadod, Samarkha, Ochaj Talawadipura, Harpalipura, Dungaripura, Phajalpura, Pallat, Asavali, Koshyal, Prakashnagar, Pipadia, Sokhada, Bhuttipura, Sekhopura, Tobe Mahetej, Kubjarao and Trenil etc. About total of Wheat 20,000.0 kg, Rice 10,000.0 kg, Lentils 5000.0 kg, Bajri 5000.0 kg, Masala containing five spices1000 packets, Utensil1000 sets were distributed to the flood victims. Each family received wheat 20 kg, rice 10 kg, bajri 5 kg, lentils 5kg , one packet spices and essential cooking utensils including, one large pot, two serving dishes, two cooking pots, two glasses, four bowls, two big serving spoons etc. Ashram is highly thankful to Sri. Dushyant Dave, eminent lawyer of Delhi and family owning famous “ Vagh Bakari Chay (Tea)” for their charitable act of kindness and donating for this worthy cause. May Almighty Lord and Sri Gurudev bless both of them.. This was made possible by a team of dedicated volunteers of the ashram including vice presidents Sri Marutbhai Dave, Sri Jagdishbhai Patel, Sri Arunbhai Oza, Rev Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj and most of the member of the board. They all went personally in different areas and distributed the grains and packages. Appropriate planning and precautions were taken for the goods to reach to flood victims only. Sri Guru Purnima and Forty Third Aradhana day Satsang The Vyas Purnima, also called Guru Purnima was celebrated on Thursday July 21, 2005, with a befitting program commencing in the morning with group recitation of Sri Jaya Ganesh Kirtan, Guru Stotras, Shanti path, Paduka vandana, japa and meditation under the guidance of Rev. Sri. M. J. Patani Saheb and H. H. Sri. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji offered his obeisance to the great Sage Sri.Vyasa. Sri Bhagwan Vyasa is also known as Sri Krishna Dvaipayana, who is a compiler of the Vedas and a author of the Brahma Sutras and eighteen Puranas, including the Srimad Bhagavata Mahapuranas. It is believed that the Lord Narayana Himself incarnated as Sri. Vyasa. Swamiji paid homage to Sri Vyasa Bhagavan, the Guru-parampara and the Holy Master Gurudev Sri. Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj and the Most Worshipful Gurumaharaj Sri Swami Chidanandji Maharaj. Evening satsang (from 6.00pm- 9.30pm) was highlighted with grand Padukapujan, Bhakti Sangeet by Ms. Nirali Udeshi, Ms. Devki Patel, Mrs. Mayurika Oza, Mrs. Ranjana Harish and a discourse by Rev. Swami Adhyatmanandaji. Rev. Swamiji shared the thoughts of teaching of Sadgurudev Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. He emphasized the need of daily sadhana for spiritual seeker. The life of a spiritual seeker is a constant struggle for developing virtues and eradicating vices. Desires, lust, anger, greed, delusion (moha), jealousy, etc. are some of the vices that one has to eradicate and develop virtues like, compassion, love, truthfulness, ahimsa, equanimity, brahmacharya etc. One has to wear the armour of wisdom while walking through the battlefield of life and cut the enemy of ignorance with the sword of discrimination. Seek not the name & fame in the world outside. Such temptations are to be checked and transformed in to a force that reveals the inner SELF. One has to go beyond the three GUNAS to achieve “Self Realization”, which is the ultimate Goal of Human life Perfected being is the one, who has attained complete mastery over the mind, developed all the essential virtues, eradicated the vices and has realized his true identity (Atma-Jnana). Tours & programs of H. H. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj (July 2005) At Jalandhar (July 1, 2005- July 3, 2005) – Early morning Meditation session followed by discourses on the Subject of “Gita in daily Life” by Swamiji were organized at Arya Samaj Model town. Also Swamiji’s programs were arranged at Patel Cancer Hospital and PKJ College of fine arts. At Amritsar (July 3, 2005) – In the forenoon Swamiji attended satsang at Holy Durgayan temple and satsang arranged at Sri Jiyalalji Mohalla and Sri Rampal’s home. He also paid homage at holy Harmandir Saheb Swarna Mandir Gurudwara. In the evening of July 3, Swamiji visited Holy Samadhi Shrine of H. H.Sri Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj at Siddhabari and had a satsang and darshan of Sri Swami Subodhanandaji Maharaj In Delhi (July 4, 2005)- Swamiji attended Satsang at Indian Airlines Colony and All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). At Nainital- July 5, 2005- July 9, 2005) Satsang were organized at Aryasamaj and Sri Arvind Ashram.Dr. Madhusudan hosted Swamiji. On July 9, 2005 and July 10, 2005 Sri. Ved Singhal arranged Swamiji’s satsang at Malviya Nagar,Delhi. On July12, 2005 Swamiji was invited at Sri Swami Narayan Arts College, A’bad. He gave inspiring speech to youth at award presenting ceremony. On July15, 2005 Swamiji had a visit to Pansar( Kalol Dist) on the occasion of Felicitation ceremony of retired principal and opening of new building of primary school. Plantation of trees in school campus was done. On July 20, 2005 Gujarat Law Society’s School of Education for teacher training college invited Swamiji at their special ceremony. He spoke to the future teachers on the subject of “How can I be a Good Teacher”? On July 21, 2005 afternoon Rev. Swamiji went to “ Manthan Institute” at Hajipur and attended opening ceremony of its new residential facility for blind girls. They provide wonderful seva to about four hundred and fifty physically and mentally handicap girls including blind, deaf and dumb. Rev Swamiji’s presence made everybody cheerful and inspired. Soon after that Swamiji also visited Cancer hospital. A prayer was offered for all sick and suffering patients. Rev. Swamiji met number of critically ill patients and spoke to them. Publications Newsletters Holy month of Shravan celebration The holy month of “Shravan” has special significance for worshiping Lord Siva. It was celebrated with great zeal and devotion at Sivananda Asharm, A’bad. Devotees participated in special worship services at the Ashram’s Lord Vishavanath temple. Evening discourses on “Srimad Bhagavatam” by Rev. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji were held at the ashram and attended by large number of devotees during the entire month of Shravan. Also five hundred trees were planted at the ashram courtyard and thousand more were planted at other educational institutes on inspiration of Swami Adhyatmanandaji . Swamiji said “Siva drank poison to save mankind and spared nectar for Gods and other divinities. Trees take carbandioxide and spare oxygen for all of us to survive. Nurturing the Tree is a form of Siva worship only. Tree plantations were done in Nutan Vidya Mandir, National Institute for Design, Sri Prabhudas Thakkar College for arts and commerce. On Rakshabadhan day hundreds of Brahmins joined for five hours long traditional renewing the thread ceremony at the ashram. Visit to Indore & Ujjain. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj visited Indore and Ujjain. At Indore, he was invited for opening ceremony of Sri Vishvanath & Co. Rev. Swamiji addressed to students of the Shishukunj International School of learning. Plantation of tree was done in premises of institute. This is an international school having its branch in UK, USA, Kenya and Sweden. At Ujjain Sri Swamiji’s public discourse was organized at the auditorium of famous Sri Mahakaleshwar Mahadev’s temple and at the central prison. Visit to Vadodra Sri Swamiji had a quick visit to Vadodra on a request of devotee. He visited ailing devotees in the hospital, who were hospitalized and bed ridden for few months . Janmashtmi Celebration (Aug 27,2005) Several thousand devotees from all over gathered to celebrate Janmashtami at Sivananda ashram, A’bad on Saturday Aug 27, 2005. Attendees, celebrating the birthday of Lord Krishna enjoyed a devotional music presented by Smt. Sima Trivedi & Sri. Jayesh Naik from 9.00pm to 12.30 midnight. A mammoth gathering enjoyed and was overwhelmed by interpretation of each devotional song by Rev. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Exhibition of “Om” painting A wonderful exhibition on “OM” painting with 108 in different sizes was organized at the ashram’s Sri Ashta Lakshmi Bhavan. The same was thrown open by very prominent poet and artist Sri Madhav Ramanuj. Painter Mr. Brijesh Upadhyaya is B.E. (civil), but his liking for painting from his childhood has attracted him to frequent visits to faculty of fine arts at M.S. University, Baroda. More than 20,000 viewers visited this exhibition in five days. Upcoming Yoga Teachers training Course (Dec 11, 2005- Dec 30, 2005) Divya Jivan Sanskrutik Sangh, Ahmedabad will be organizing its 7th yoga teachers training course from Dec11, 2005 to Dec 30-2005 at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad. Course will be conducted by leading medical practitioners, cardiologist, internist, general physician and yoga experts. The subjects to be covered during the course are yoga related anatomy and physiology with basic flexibilities, Yogasana, science of Pranayama, art of relaxation and meditation technique. Spiritual discourses on Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali yoga darshan and other philosophical discussion will be shared by learned speaker and Pujya Swamiji. Vegetarian meals will be served during the stay. Examination will be taken and certificates will be allotted to the worthy students upon the successful completion of the course. Sivananda Ashram’s yoga teaching is being recognized by Gujarat University. Donation of Rs. five thousand to be paid by candidate for this intensive yoga teaching inclusive of lodging and boarding.
