Publications Newsletters During the holy month of Shravan Sri Adhytmanandji gave discourses on Shrimad Bhagvatam in the Holy Sri Ashatlakshmi Bhavan. It concluded on September 7, 2002 on Shravani Amavasya day with Yajna and homam. As you already know, Sivananda Hospital at Adipur was severely damaged during the earthquake. The Hospital with Sri Radheshyam temple in it, has been renovated. In the morning of auspicious Janmashtami day (August 31, 2002) , reinstallation of idols of Sri Radha-Krishna and Lord Siva, in temple, was ceremonially performed by Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Pujya Swamiji came back in the evening to the Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad for Janmashtami celebration. Krishna Janma (Birthday Anniversary of Lord Krishna) was joyously celebrated by a large numbers of devotees. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandji Maharaj conducted 585 Yoga Camp at “Atmiya Institute of Technology-Yogidham, Rajkot. Six hundred twenty eight people, that included Principal, professors, students and seekers attended the camp. Pujya Swamiji also visited Virnagar and had Darshan of Samadhi Smarak (memorial) of Brahmlin Sri. Yagnavalkyanandji Maharj ( Pujya Sri Bapuji) and paid homage to the great Saint of Gujarat. Independence Day Celebration (Jan 26, 2008) with Chief secretary of Gujarat Sri Narendra ModiJi In the evening, Rev Sri Swamiji Maharaj & devotees of the ashram were invited to Governor’s House for Independence Day social gathering. 3 rd Brahmotsav of Hanuman Temple (Jan 26, 2008) “Maruti Yajana” was performed to mark the third Brahmotsav of Holy Sri Hanuman Temple and Mahaprasad was served to all the devotees. Also Sri Sunderkand Parayan by Sri Ajay Yajnikji of Delhi was organized on this occasion. Every body enjoyed his melodious singing in praise of Lord Sri Rama. On Jan 31, 2008 again Sri Sunderkand Parayan by Sri Ashwin Pathakji was organized at the ashram in the evening and a great number of devotees joined the holy satsang. Elocution competition for Youth (Jan 27, 2008) Gujarat Divya Jivan Sang, under the banner of “Adhyatmananda Vikas Youth Activities” organized Sighra (spotanious) Elocution competition for college children. Twenty six kids from thirteen colleges participated. It turned out to be very challenging and interesting to all, as it brought out real genius in youth spontaneous speaking on varied subjects like, karma, bhakti, jnana, spirituality & politics etc.. Sivananda Literature was distributed to all the participants and three winners ( first, second & Third) received prizes in cash in addition.Credit goes to Dr. Prof. Chirag Pandya for organizing this program. Other News On Jan 5, 2008 Gujarat Nursing School, Civil Hospital held graduation ceremony for the graduating students. They perform a beautiful Candle Presentation. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj was invited as a special guest. Swamiji praise the noble profession of nursing and stressed to keep the ideal of “Manav seva is Madhav seva”. At Gujarat Vidyapeeth, World Peace Conference was organized and H. H. Dalai Lama presided over a grand congregation. It was a joy indeed to see Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj and H. H. Dalai Lama meeting in mutual love and reverence for each other. His Holiness Dalai Lama praise Pujya Swami Adhyatmanandaji’s work and service to the Mankind in public meeting. His Holiness cherished his past memories with Pujya Swamiji and said, “one day, I was very hungry, I went to his ashram he gave me very good food, I cannot forget it.” All Religion Prayer Meeting (Jan 30, 2008) On Jan 30, 2008, Pujya Bapuji, Mahatma Gandhiji’s Punya Tithi, “All Religion Prayer Meeting” was held at Gandhi Ashram, A’bad. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj during the Month of January 2008 Visit to “Brahmajyoti”, Anoopam Mission at Mogri (Jan 1, 2008) On Jan 1, 2008 Revered Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji, Sri Arunbhai Oza, Sri Marut Dave, Dr. Snehal Amin, Sri Bharat Thakkar and Yogi James from Taiwan joined a special satsang held on Golden Jubilee celebration of Anoopam Mission honoring invitation of Pujya Sri Jashbhai Saheb Ji. 693 rd Yoga Camp at Ankleshwar (Jan 2, 2008 – Jan 9, 2008) Gujarat Divya Jivan Sangh organized Pujya SwamiAdhyatmanandaji’s Yogasana, Pranayama and Meditation Camp at Ankleshwar. In the evening, Gita Jana Yajana by Sri Swami on Chapter 9th of Bhagvad Gita was attended by large number of devotees at Sanatan Mandir. Sri Swamiji was invited for inaugural function of “Gandhi Katha” by Sri Narayanbhai Desai at Sri Jyendrapuri College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Sri Swamiji visited Vivekananda School, other Educational Institutes, Industrial places and corporate houses during his stay here. Sivananda Hospital at Bharuch is operated by Divya Jivan Sangh-Bharuch, is doing wonderful seva to poor, sick and under privileged people. They are expanding their services. On Jan 6, 2008 Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji inaugurated hospital expansion of ICU unit equipments, Sivananda Library, Sivananda Conference Hall & Yoga Museum. Satsang at Khedbrahma (Jan 14, 2008 & Jan 15, 2008) Divya Jivan Sang, Kadiyara branch organized grand Spiritual Congregation at Ramnagar Kampa. It was attended by many saints, including Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Devotees came from near by villages for the satsang with Mahatmas. “Gaupujan” (cow worship) performed and hundreds of cows were set free for grazing in the field with crops, especially made ready for them at Rojanta on Makarsankranti day. A grand feast (Bhandara) was served to hundreds of devotees. H. H. Sri Swami Gurukrupanandaji Maharaj organized these program. In the afternoon of Jan15, 2008 devotee group from Sivananda Ashram with Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji went to Abu-Ambaji, Hatkeshwar temple, had darshan and satsang at Vadnagar. Visit to Jamnagar (Jan 20, 2008) On Jan 20, 2008 Pujya Swami Adhyatmanandaji with a group of fifteen devotees from Sivananda Ashram, A’bad went to Jamnagar.They attended Sunday weekly prayer meeting at Dr. H. G. Tanna’s Sanjivani Hospital. Sri Swami Maharaj conducted the Satsang and kirtan. After that, they proceeded to pilgrimage to Dwarka. The group visited Sharda Math / Sri Shankaracharya Math and had satsang and darshan. Devotees felt fortunate to have such pilgrimage in holy company of Pujya Swamiji. Publications Newsletters News In Slide Show Yoga teaching through SIVA – Sivananda International Vedanta and Yoga Academy at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad offers daily yoga lessons for Beginners, Intermediate & Established yoga practitioners. The daily Yoga sessions start at early hours of dawn (5.30am) and continue through the day in different groups. Bone chilling cold temperature past month did not deter Yoga enthusiasts to come to their yoga classes. Thanks, also to all yoga teacher’s dedication to this selfless service. Also Yoga Camps, Yoga Teacher Certifications Course, weekend Yoga workshop are being organized through SIVA regularly. Yoga teaching is one of the vital activities at the ashram. Ashram offers more extended programs in all areas of Spirituality, Health Wellness, and Personal Growth, with an emphasis on Yoga and Meditation, under the guidance of H. H. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj Yoga workshops and programs at Ashram are designed to integrate all aspects of life – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual – and help Sadhak finds inner peace and joy. Also through Sivananda Clinic at the ashram, patients with multiple medical problems are being treated on one to one bases. They are provided with expert instructions on yoga postures, breathing practices, relaxation techniques & meditation as a holistic way of healing. Healing through Reiki teaching and training sessions by Reiki Grand Master Mrs. Rupa Majmudar and Mr. Tapan Mankodi is also a part of regular activity. Three sessions were held in the month of February 2008 at the ashram Dhyana Shibir (Meditation Camp)- Feb 25, 2008 – March 3, 2008 Sincere Sadhaks participated a five days rigorous spiritual discipline at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad from Feb 25, 2008 – March 3, 2008. It included daily total nine hours of Meditation on ‘Omkar’ (Pranav Dhyan) in three sessions, discourses for two and a half hours in two sessions. The day started with first Dhyana session from 3:30 am to 6:30 am, second session 8:30 am to 11:30 am, third session from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm and again night session concluded at 8:30 pm. The entire program was directed and guided by Most Worshipful and Revered H. H. Sri Swami Pragnaranyaji Maharaj (also known as Swami Protoplasm). His entire vision “TO KNOW THY SELF” is based on teachings of Bhagvan Sri Sri Sri Ramana Maharshi. Inspiring educational video films also were shown to participants. Satvik food, dates, fruits etc were served to all the participants. Sadhakas observed total silence through out the Meditation Camp. Jnana Yajna at Ahemdabad (Feb 21, 2008 – Feb 28, 2008) A Jnana Yajna was organized by a regional daily news paper “SANDESH” and sponsored by ISCON. It was a grand event in Ahmedabad. Erudite scholars and enlightened religious heads from various sects shared the words of wisdom. Opening function was attended by Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Swamiji addressed the large assembly on Feb 27, 2008. A mammoth crowd was touched by his discourse on the subject of “Vaishnav Jana to Tene Re Kahiye”; It was impregnated with Bhakti, Jnana & wisdom. He said that Religion is not in the Temple or Mosque or Church or in Gurudwara and so “Vaishnav” is not Hindu only. Then, who is a True Vaishnava (Devotee of the Lord)? He, who neither attaches himself to anything nor does he have any aversion to things. He, who has a balanced mind under all circumstances and not agitated by the happenings of the world, nor does he himself cause any agitation in others. He, who is perfectly desire less, rejoices in the Lord within and sees equality everywhere, being untouched by sorrow, fear, honour as also dishonor. He, who is perfectly content and has surrendered his entire being to the Lord, is a “True Vaishnav”. Swamiji also attended concluding function on Feb 28, 2008. Other Satsangs H. H. Sri Swami Nirliptanandaji Maharaj, a vice president of Head Quarter of Divine Life Society, Sivananda Ashram visited Ahmedabad on his visit to Gujarat. Publications Newsletters News In Slide Show Yoga teaching through SIVA – Sivananda International Vedanta and Yoga Academy at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad offers daily yoga lessons for Beginners, Intermediate & Established yoga practitioners. The daily Yoga sessions start at early hours of dawn (5.30am) and continue through the day in different groups. Bone chilling cold temperature past month did not deter Yoga enthusiasts to come to their yoga classes. Thanks, also to all yoga teacher’s dedication to this selfless service. Also Yoga Camps, Yoga Teacher Certifications Course, weekend Yoga workshop are being organized through SIVA regularly. Yoga teaching is one of the vital activities at the ashram. Ashram offers more extended programs in all areas of Spirituality, Health Wellness, and Personal Growth, with an emphasis on Yoga and Meditation, under the guidance of H. H. Also through Sivananda Clinic at the ashram, patients with multiple medical problems are being treated on one to one bases. Three sessions were held in the month of February 2008 at the ashram Dhyana Shibir (Meditation Camp)- Feb 25, 2008 – March 3, 2008 Sincere Sadhaks participated a five days rigorous spiritual discipline at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad from Feb 25, 2008 – March 3, 2008. It included daily total nine hours of Meditation on ‘Omkar’ (Pranav Dhyan) in three sessions, discourses for two and a half hours in two sessions. The day started with first Dhyana session from 3:30 am to 6:30 am, second session 8:30 am to 11:30 am, third session from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm and again night session concluded at 8:30 pm. The entire program was directed and guided by Most Worshipful and Revered H. H. Sri Swami Pragnaranyaji Maharaj (also known as Swami Protoplasm). His entire vision “TO KNOW THY SELF” is based on teachings of Bhagvan Sri Sri Sri Ramana Maharshi. Inspiring educational video films also were shown to participants. Satvik food, dates, fruits etc were served to all the participants. Sadhakas observed total silence through out the Meditation Camp. Jnana Yajna at Ahemdabad (Feb 21, 2008 – Feb 28, 2008) A Jnana Yajna was organized by a regional daily news paper “SANDESH” and sponsored by ISCON. It was a grand event in Ahmedabad. Erudite scholars and enlightened religious heads from various sects shared the words of wisdom. Opening function was attended by Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj. Swamiji addressed the large assembly on Feb 27, 2008. A mammoth crowd was touched by his discourse on the subject of “Vaishnav Jana to Tene Re Kahiye”; It was impregnated with Bhakti, Jnana & wisdom. He said that Religion is not in the Temple or Mosque or Church or in Gurudwara and so “Vaishnav” is not Hindu only. Then, who is a True Vaishnava (Devotee of the Lord)? He, who neither attaches himself to anything nor does he have any aversion to things. He, who has a balanced mind under all circumstances and not agitated by the happenings of the world, nor does he himself cause any agitation in others. He, who is perfectly desire less, rejoices in the Lord within and sees equality everywhere, being untouched by sorrow, fear, honour as also dishonor. He, who is perfectly content and has surrendered his entire being to the Lord, is a “True Vaishnav”. Swamiji also attended concluding function on Feb 28, 2008. Other Satsangs H. H. Publications Newsletters News In Slide Show Mahashivaratri Utsav ( March 6, 2008) More than twelve thousand devotees thronged the Lord Vishvanath Temple to pray and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva on Maha Shivratri (March 6, 2008) at Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad. Chants of “Om Namah Shivaya” charged the air of Sivananda Ashram with Divine Vibrations. The Siva Lingam was worshipped by washing it with milk, curd, honey and rose water as the chants of Vedic Hymns, Namakam, Chamakam, Rudram and “Om Namah Shivaya” in praise of Siva continued. Continuous twenty five hours Siva Lingam worship services, including Lagurudra began in the early hours of dawn, 4.00am on March 6, 2008 until the next day 5.00 am on March 7, 2008. Siva Lingam was adorned with special Shringar and Rev. Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj performed Bhasma Arati. Siva temple was full of Bel (Bilva) leaves, which were offered to the Lingam. Bel leaves are believed to be very sacred. Bhakti Sangeet (Devotional Songs) in praise of the Lord by different musical groups (from 5.30pm until 5.00am) from Ahmedabad, Baroda, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Bharuch, Surat, Mumbai and Jodhpur of Rajasthan added a special fervor to already charged atmosphere with divine vibrations. Mahaprasad was served to all on next day. On March 4, 2008 Sri Swamiji Maharaj inaugurated four days long “Shivratri Retreat” organized at Chinmaya Mission, Ahmedabad. On the same day sixty different colleges of Gujarat University visited Sivananda Ashram. Three hours symposium was organized and was attended by large numbers of students. It was concluded by Swamiji’s address to the student assembly on the subject of ‘ effective speaking’. Concluding of Meditation Camp (Feb 25, 2006 – March 5, 2008) Pranav is Omkar. Pranav or Omkar is the essence of the spiritual Sadhana. Regular chanting of Omkara is the quintessence of Pranayam science. Pranayama is an important limb in the Yoga of meditation. It is necessary for all, in their daily life, for good health, success and prosperity in every walk of life. The women of India have preserved the spiritual character of our society. See woman as the Energy of God. He said that woman is the Divine power on earth. Woman is an Embodiment of sacrifice, Ahimsa and patience. Woman is an embodiment of patience, gentleness, softness, sweetness, service and Ahimsa. Swamiji cited the example of a great women of ancient time Gargi, Maitri, Arundhati & Madalsa to name a few and Women are the empowerment up to the present age in all field of life. Swamiji condemned the abortion of the female child and brought a spotlight to protection of women. Visit to Anoopam Mission, Mogri With great enthusiasm & devotion thousands of devotees gathered to celebrate Happy Birthday of their beloved H. H. Shri Jashbhai Saheb at Mogri (Anand). Sri Swami Adhyatmandaji Maharaj gave the introductory discourse, followed by Sri Atul Parikh, Sri Balram Saha and six other assistants who successfully conducted the rest of the camp. A grand closing ceremony was held and a memento was gifted to Rev. Sri Adhyatmandaji Maharaj. Tree plantation was the main feature of the program. 60th wedding anniversary of Sri. T. S. Srivastav (Retired Director of Flight safety, Indian Airlines) and Mrs. Savitri Srivastav, was celebrated with great enthusiasm by their children and close family members in presence of Sri Swamiji Maharaj at holy Sivannada ashram, On june 24th a grand Yajna (Aayushya Homa) was conducted in the temple followed by feeding to poor and an evening of devotional music. On June 26, 2008 Sri Swamiji Maharaj addressed the executives of Aroma Industries on the subject of “Stress Managment”. Sri Swamiji also graced “Darpan ” a famous Institute of Indian Classical Dance, drama and music run by Mrs. Mrinalini Sarabhai, a wife of late Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. On the 27, 2008 Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj visited well known Senior Citizen Home at Ahmedabad. He inspired them with his holy presence and with his imple message. He taught the gospel of Sivananda to practice in daily life, “Be simple, be humble, be noble, serve, love, give, purify, meditate and realize, inquire who I am? Know yourself and be free.” Sri Swamiji requested them to start their day with prayers, end their day with prayers and fill their day with prayers. Let God be the centre of life, God be the first, God be the last and God for all the time. On June 28, 2008 Sri Swamiji Maharaj and other saints of the Ashram inaugurated a well known Chennai based Bio Ceramic Product company at Bhopal named Cony Bio Health care India Pvt. Ltd. In the evening Sri Swamiji Maharaj addressed the students of Indian Institute of planning and management. This was followed by interaction session with students and Question answer session. A farewell get together was organized by well-wishers in honor of Smt. Poonam Mataji, secretary of the Ashram and for dedicated Yoga teacher, Dr. Snehal Amin & his family. They went to USA and UK respectively. On receiving the unfortunate news of heart attack followed by stroke and paralysis of H. H. Sri Swami Ram Swaroopanandaji Maharaj, from the H.Q. of the Divine Life Society, a special prayer was conducted seeking the blessing for his early recovery, good health and long life. This month ashram had a number of saints, guests and visitors from Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Gaziabad, Jaipur, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Sri Jagannath Puri(Nimapada). Regular yoga teaching, Reiki sharing, feeding the poor, distribution ration to the needy, acupressure, worship services at the temples, prayers and satsangs were conducted as usual. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj During the month of June 2008 Tithal (Valsad) Spiritual Retreat (June 1, 2008- June 6, 2008) : Sri Gujarat Divya Jivan organized annual spiritual, retreat at the Tithal sea shore. Seventy five sadhaks attended the Retreat, which was hosted by Jain Saint Sri Jinchandraji Maharaj (Bandhu Tripati). Revered Sri. Kiritchandraji Maharaj and Sri Jinchandraji Maharaj extended their generous hospitality to the entire group, looking after every essential need. Each of the participants enjoyed the camp by participating in early morning prayers followed by meditation at the sea shore and performing chanting of “Sri Vishnusahashram.” Evening discourses by Sri Swamiji Maharaj on Chapter Thirteen of Srimad Bhagavad Gita were well received by all. On June 2nd Sri Pratap Desai’s , secretary and on 3 rd June Sri Yagnesh Desai’s, president of the DLS branch, Valsad birthday was celebrated. This was a special treat for the participants. Mumbai : On June 6, 2008, Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji arrived Mumbai from Valsad. Sri Swamiji was received cordially at the railway station. A Satsang was organized by devotees and well-wishers at Kandivali Mumbai. Srimati Vishakha and Sri Maulesh Pota hosted the spiritual evening and dinner was served to all. Karnal : (June 7th & 8th) On the sincere and earnest invitation of Sri Amrik Singhji Maharaj of Nirmal Dham and Sri Satish Goyal, President of Sri Karma Yoga Association, karnal, Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj visited Karnal for a couple of days. A spectacular Yogasana demonstration was performed by hundreds of children under the apt guidance of Yogacharya Sri Vinay Kohliji of Karma Yoga Association. Sri Swamiji Maharaj gave a couple of discourses in Punjabi language on two public meeting, one at the Nirmal Dham Gurudwara and second at the hotel Reliance Plaza. The public meetings were organized by Bharat Vikas parishad, Karnal. Sri Swamiji Maharaj share his thoughts on the subject of the need of cultural heritage in the present age. A mammoth crowd attended the discourse. The discourse ended with interactive session of audience and followed by a dinner. Dholka: On June 9, 2008 Sri Swamiji Maharaj arrived at Dholka directly from Ahmedabad airport to attend an inaugural function organized by Vidyotejak Mandal of Dholka. Rev. Swamiji inaugurated the Grand Assembly Hall, science experimental rooms, laboratories and classrooms. Sri Arun Oza had donated for this development a very generous amount of Rupees eleven lakh in the worthy memory of his late father Sri Devendrabhai Oza. Many dignitaries were present at this function.Sri Swamiji Maharaj awarded prizes to ‘the best Educational institutes”, ‘ best principal’, ‘best teachers’ and ‘ bright student of the district’. A spectacular Yogasana demonstration was performed by hundreds of children under the apt guidance of Yogacharya Sri Vinay Kohliji of Karma Yoga Association. Sri Swamiji Maharaj gave a couple of discourses in Punjabi language on two public meeting, one at the Nirmal Dham Gurudwara and second at the hotel Reliance Plaza. The public meetings were organized by Bharat Vikas parishad, Karnal. Sri Swamiji Maharaj share his thoughts on the subject of the need of cultural heritage in the present age. A mammoth crowd attended the discourse. The discourse ended with interactive session of audience and followed by a dinner. Dholka: On June 9, 2008 Sri Swamiji Maharaj arrived at Dholka directly from Ahmedabad airport to attend an inaugural function organized by Vidyotejak Mandal of Dholka. Rev. Swamiji inaugurated the Grand Assembly Hall, science experimental rooms, laboratories and classrooms. Sri Arun Oza had donated for this development a very generous amount of Rupees eleven lakh in the worthy memory of his late father Sri Devendrabhai Oza. Many dignitaries were present at this function.Sri Swamiji Maharaj awarded prizes to ‘the best Educational institutes”, ‘ best principal’, ‘best teachers’ and ‘ bright student of the district’. Sri Swami Adhyatmandaji Maharaj gave the introductory discourse, followed by Sri Atul Parikh, Sri Balram Saha and six other assistants who successfully conducted the rest of the camp. A grand closing ceremony was held and a memento was gifted to Rev. Sri Adhyatmandaji Maharaj. Tree plantation was the main feature of the program. 60th wedding anniversary of Sri. T. S. Srivastav (Retired Director of Flight safety, Indian Airlines) and Mrs. Savitri Srivastav, was celebrated with great enthusiasm by their children and close family members in presence of Sri Swamiji Maharaj at holy Sivannada ashram, On june 24th a grand Yajna (Aayushya Homa) was conducted in the temple followed by feeding to poor and an evening of devotional music. On June 28, 2008 Sri Swamiji Maharaj and other saints of the Ashram inaugurated a well known Chennai based Bio Ceramic Product company at Bhopal named Cony Bio Health care India Pvt. Ltd. In the evening Sri Swamiji Maharaj addressed the students of Indian Institute of planning and management. This was followed by interaction session with students and Question answer session. A farewell get together was organized by well-wishers in honor of Smt. Poonam Mataji, secretary of the Ashram and for dedicated Yoga teacher, Dr. Snehal Amin & his family. They went to USA and UK respectively. On receiving the unfortunate news of heart attack followed by stroke and paralysis of H. H. Publications Newsletters Sivananda Ashram has been awarded a “Silver Star achiever blood donation institution” by Indian Red Cross Society, Ahmedabad. Honor goes to H. H. Sri Swami Adhyatmanandaji Maharaj who is the Back Bone and an Inspirer of this life saving activity. Swamiji, himself is an centurion blood donor (donated 117th times). Swamiji is on His Divya Tour to the West at present. In absence of Swamiji, the award was received by Ashram’s Vice President and Trustee Sri Arun Oza and Secretary Smt. Poonam Thawani on Oct 1, 2008 on a special day ” All India Voluntary Blood Function day” designated by Indian Red Cross Society. The function was held at Tagore Hall in august presence of H. E. Governor of Gujarat, Pandit Sri Nawal Kishore Sharmaji. Indian Red Cross felicitated Sivananda Ashram, Ahmedabad for organizing blood donation camps “Navaratri”-Worship of God as a Mother (Sept 30, 2008 – Oct 9, 2008): Navaratri is traditionally time for Devi worship, a period of introspection and purification. It was an intense Sadhana time at the ashram during nine days of Navaratri. Many Sadhaks with residential Swamis’ of the Ashram engaged in Devi worships. Each day early morning prayers & worship services offered to Sri Sri Sri Maa Aadi Shakti at Sri Sri Sri Maa Ashta Laxmi Bhawan by Pandit Sri Kamlesh Kumar Jha. Also Srimad Bhagavad Gita Parayan and Shree Durga Saptsati (Chandi Path) was organized where a great number of devotees participated as a part of the Navaratri Sadhna. Durga Saptashati is Devi Mahatmaya of seven hundred Mantras, considered very potent. It forms a part of the Markandeya Purana, one of the 18 important puranas of Hinduism. On Ashtami day, about two hundred Kanyas-Batuks were worshipped in Sri Ashta Laxmi Bhawan and were served with Prasad of , fruits, sweets, toys, biscuits, dakshina, saree etc. All children with their parents also were served Maha Prasad. Ashtalaxmi Darshan – Navaratri Ashtami Yajana & Kanya-Batuk Pujan Nights were rejoiced in the worship of Mother Durga in the form of traditional garba and dandia-ras through all nine days of Navratri. Sri Manish Majmudar and Smt. Pramaben Mankodi added a great flavor through their melodious singing and made the whole atmosphere vibrating. Several hundred devotees used to play garbas daily, some days it passed to thousands as other groups joined too, namely Soni Mahila Mandal, Samast Nagar Sankalan Samittee, Ahmedabad organized garba and more than thousand people participated in the Devi worship to Mother Jagdamba . Also about three hundred Senior Citizens from various Old Age Homes were arranged to be brought in this joyous festivity. Singer & devotee couple Sri Jayesh Nayak and Smt. Seema Trivedi along with their orchestra group provided vibrant rhythm for garbas for the crowd of about three thousand young & old all together.
